IAHR Regional & Special Conferences

Upon application, the IAHR Executive Committee has granted the status of an IAHR Special or Regional Conference (cf. http://www.iahr.dk/special.html & http://www.iahr.dk/regional.html) to the following conferences:

• IAHR Special Conferences
  • Norway/NTNT:"Religions, Science and Technology in Cultural Contexts: Dynamics of Change", March 1-13, 2012, NTNT, Trondheim. (See http://www.ntnu.no/iar/konferanser/relsci)
  • EASR/Sweden: “Ends and Beginnings”, August 23- 26, Södertörn University, Stockholm. (See www.sh.se/EASR2012).
    
    
• IAHR Regional Conferences
  • AASR/Kenya: "Sports, Leisure,  Religion and Spirituality in Africa and the African Diaspora",  July 18- 23, 2012 5th AASR Regional Conference (in collaboration with PANAFSTRAG) Egerton  University, Njoro, Kenya. (Cf. http://www.a-asr.org/)
  • SSEASR/Phillipines 2013 (final dates still to be announced).

The IAHR Executive Committee is pursuing the same strategy as previous Executive Committees in regard to implementing and furthering the global character of the IAHR, and we encourage national or regional member societies and associations that have not recently hosted IAHR special and regional conferences to consider this possibility.

The Executive Committee intends to ensure that the locations in which we have the Executive Committee meetings as well as the meeting of the International Committee that normally takes place in between two World Congresses (e.g. in Brno 2008, and thus again in 2013) also reflects the global character of the IAHR constituency.     

We thus encourage national and regional member societies and associations that might be contemplating hosting an IAHR Special or Regional Conference in 2013-2014 to approach the IAHR General Secretary at the earliest possible stages of consideration and planning. An early approach is also recommended in regard to the possibility of obtaining CIPSH grants, since the IAHR has to apply for such several years in advance.

As for the rules and regulations for IAHR Special and Regional Conferences, see the links inserted above , but please notice that these rules and regulations will be revised in the not too distant future. 

Allow me to repeat that conferences arranged by members and affiliates but not awarded the status of an IAHR Special or Regional Conference may very well be announced at the IAHR website too. Please just tell the General Secretary to see to it and please send him the relevant information.
