RELIGION AND SOCIETY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM (19th-21st centuries)
Hosted by Rennes 2 University
7-8 October 2010

This conference will explore the changing nature and role of religion in British society. We hope to bring together scholars from a wide variety of fields: history, sociology, religious studies, etc. and invite papers to focus on one of the following areas of research, all concerned with the United Kingdom:

  • Religious practices and beliefs
  • The secularization debate
  • The Church of England as an established Church and other religious institutions
  • The attitudes of the different churches towards women
  • The role of women within the various denominations
  • The debate around gay priesthood
  • The links between religion and politics
  • The disestablishment of the Church of England in the United Kingdom including the debate around the disestablishment of the Church of England.

Please note that there will be a 50 euro fee for attending the conference.
