- Announcing the new Executive Committee (2005-2010), elected on March 27, 2005.
- Announcing the successful inaugural General Assembly of a new association called South and Southeast Asian Association for the Study of Culture and Religion (SSEASR) held during the IAHR Regional Conference in New Delhi, January 27-30, 2005.
- The General Secretary has received recommendations for Honorary Life Membership by the Honorary Life Membership Advisory Committee Chaired by Prof. R. J. Zwi Werblowsky.
- The General Secretary has received from the Nominating Committee a list of candidates for the next Executive Committee (2005-2010). The list was sent to all the affiliates after which it was posted on a special election page at this website.
- The North American Association for the Study of Religion (NAASR) has negotiated with Brill to obtain a 33% discount on the price of Method & Theory in the Study of Religion for all NAASR members (beginning with MTSR vol. 17 [2005]), such that MTSR subscription will cost only $50 for people holding NAAASR membership. This discount will also apply to all members of the IAHR.
- The IAHR has now been registered as a legal body in The Hague, The Netherlands due to the gracious services of Mr. Joed Edlich at E. J. Brill Publishers in Leiden.
- The General Secretary has received an application from Turkey for IAHR affiliation. Further news can be found here and here.
- The second circular for the 19th World Congress of the IAHR to be held at the Takanawa Prince Hotel, Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan on 24 March - 30 March 2005. It is also available at the congress website.
- The British Association for the Study of Religions (BASR) will mark its 50th anniversary in 2004 with the publication of an edited volume edited by Dr. Steven Sutcliffe.
- Call for new editors for the bibliographical journal Science of Religion.
- Announcing the successful reorganization of the Indian Association for the Study of Religion (IASR). During the IAHR Regional Conference on “Religions in the Indic Civilisation” held in New Delhi, December 18-21, 2003 and organized by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in collaboration with the IAHR, the newly reorganized IASR held its inaugural General Assembly. During the meeting the new constitution and structure of the IASR was confirmed and an interim committee was elected to encourage the establishment of regional chapters of the IASR throughout India, to develop the membership in accordance with the constitution, to arrange the second General Assembly during 2004, and to conduct elections to the second Committee which will run for a normal term from January 1, 2005.
- We have received the sad news that Prof. Yoshiya Abe, Tokyo, passed away on December 1, 2003 after suffering from cancer for more than a year. Besides his academic accomplishments, Prof. Abe was crucial to moving the Tokyo Congress planning ahead. Our condolences are extended to his colleagues, students, and family.
- Prof. Pratap Kumar, Department of Science of Religion, University of Durban-Westville, Durban, South Africa has been appointed by the publishers E. J. Brill in consultation with the Executive Committee of the IAHR as co-editor of NUMEN Book Series. Prof. Kumar will serve together with the current editor Prof. Wouter J. Hanegraaff, Amsterdam. Negotiations are currently in progress to appoint a third co-editor.
- The boards of the International Council for Philosophy and Humanistic Studies (CIPSH) and of the International Academic Union proclaim a "Resolution on Iraq, June 2003" in English and French.
- Important decisions and annoucements by the IAHR Executive Committee and the IAHR International Committee, both of which convened in Bergen, Norway on May 10, 2003.
- Four IAHR conferences during 2004 were announced by the Executive Committee in Bergen.
- E. J. Brill hosted a reception during the IAHR conference in Bergen, Norway in celebration of the 50th anniversary of NUMEN.
- The theme of the IAHR World Congress is: "Religion: Conflict and Peace". The congress will be hosted by the Japanese Association for Religious Studies in cooperation with the IAHR, and it will be held at the Takanawa Prince Hotel, Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan on 24 March - 30 March 2005. The first circular has been distributed to the IAHR affiliates. It can be downloaded here in pdf-format (53.2KB). The website is now accessible.

After its reconstitution in 2001, the IAPR aims at stimulating the study of psychology of religion in its widest sense internationally. It publishes the journal Archiv für Religionspsychologie.
- INTAS (International Association for the promotion of co-operation with scientists from the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union) is looking for experts to complete its database of external evaluators. See the call here.
